Horse Racing Fundraiser - 19th April 2008

The night got underway with the ‘Evening Express’ Heads & Tails event, our MC (Graeme Johnston) was controlling things from the floor under the watchful eye of Chief Bookie Bob Buchan. Much hilarity ensued with Bob dropping more coin tosses than he caught! Congratulations to Iain Brand who walked away victorious with his Evening Express goodiebag.

With the tote sellers in place and the MC calling the prizes the evening was underway and the tote officially opened. The evenings big mystery was which horse to choose, reflected by the concentration that Dale DeNeef and Duncan Elliott are displaying.

The evening marked our first meeting with SkySports who are following the club this year as part of the ClubLife feature that will air during some of the summer’s test matches. Some of the players were keener that others to be focused upon during the evening as Andy & Hayzie show.

We were pleased to welcome our overseas professional for the season Todd Astle to the club and the evening provided a great opportunity for Todd and his girlfriend to meet the players and even to get a bit of an advance on his first pay cheque!!

Around 120 people packed into the Bradman Suite and so the bar was doing a roaring trade and some winners even chose to celebrate their successes with the odd bottle of Moet.

Thanks to a wide range of generous sponsors there were some cracking prizes up for grabs. The winners’ roll call is as follows:

With the races out of the way the music could get underway and our own king of spin Mark Byrne belted out some tunes to top off a great evening of entertainment

Congratulations to all involved with the organisation of the evening, selling the horses and jockeys, organising sponsors and coming along on the night. You all helped in the success of the event and the grand total for the evening was £1,993. Lets hope our on-field performances can be as successful throughout the season!
