4th XI captain Ian Lumsden reviews his side's performances from the 2014 season.

Overall a very good season for the 4’s finishing a respectable fourth in the league and only bowing out of the cup in the semi-finals as we were forced to scratch due to player availabilities.

We played 10 games in the league this season winning 4 and loosing 6 but we picked up vital points in losing games to see us finish on 61.667%.

With Dave Grayson playing the season in the 3’s I had to find a new opening batsmen and promoted Pradeep Sudhakar who scored an impressive 48 in his first game opening. He then went on to score 19 in the next match followed by an impressive 85 not out which saw him called up to the 3’s. This was the top score for the 4’s and Pradeep would play the rest of the season with the 3’s. With Pradeep gone others stepped up to the mark with the bat. Rob Brereton scored a solid 48 to help us beat Academy and the surprise performance of the year came from Callum Herd with two match winning performances of 33 not out against Portcullis and a career best 72 to help us comfortably beat Turriff to guarantee safety. Chandana Alwattage was a steady head throughout the year and contributed nearly every week with the bat with noticeable scores of 44 not out on two separate occasions.

On the bowling front I found two opening strike bowlers in Faheem Awan and Clark Cameron. Both bowled extremely tight with the new bowl and gave very little away. Faheem was leading wicket taker in the 4’s with best figures of 4-33. Clark even earned a promotion to the 3’s in the latter stages of the season. These two were well supported by the slow bowlers, in myself (Ian Lumsden), Callum Herd and young Charit Koppulu whose best figures were 3-21. However, the best bowling figurers of the year came from Duncan Elliot who took 6-58, however this was a rare appearance from Duncan due to work commitments.

Behind the stumps we had a few different keepers due to player availability but when available found a safe pair of hands with Connor Lovie, who took some good catches, stumping’s and contributed with the bat at the top of the order.

On reflection the best batsmen of the year would have to go to Pradeep for his contributions at the start of the season.

Best bowler would have to be Faheem Awan for taking the most wickets and his general consistency with the new bowl in which he was rarely hit to the boundary.

However, weighing everything up Callum Herd is the fourth team’s player of the year with a top score of 72 with the bat and telling contributions with the ball and in the field, taking some good catches.

All I can say is I am looking forward to the challenge of next year.
