Knight Riders v Manno
By Steven Elliott
Good performance despite loss
Mannofield won the toss and fielded first.
The team were bolstered by some new faces Dave Smith and Sam Shearer were making long awaited returns whilst Shahid Khan and Richard Tonge were on debut.
As per the previous week we performed well in the field (all bar the skipper who spilled one in the slips).
KR were building partnerships and at one point looked like getting a much bigger score.
All the bowlers performed well, Lewis Munro bowled an excellent opening spell, Sam was unlucky not to take at least one wicket and Rahul Chandu got a couple of vital wickets.
Dave Smith (clearly brought on too late by the skipper) was both threatening and very economical with his offspin.
However the star of the show was Natesh Shivakumar who took 6 for 25 with some fine wicket to wicket bowling ably backed up by Indy who took 4 catches in the outfield.
In reply the openers got off to a useful start before losing Indy LBW for 17.
This brought about a mini collapse with both Shahid and Rahul being bowled without scoring. Dave Smith came in and steadied the ship briefly before the skipper and Dave departed in 2 balls.
Lewis and Natesh then put on the best partnership of the match with Lewis punishing any bad balls.
Lewis having hit one 6 perished the next ball trying to repeat the shot for an excellent 40.
Natesh continued to push the score along but unfortunately wickets were falling regularly at the other end.
The end was brought about with the opening bowlers returning, Natesh finally falling for 30 and Richard left not out still looking to open his account.
Again special thanks to Ken for his enthusiasm throughout the game.
So another loss but 18 points gained. The league seems a bit more open this season with only 2 teams without a win after 2 games, however that does leave us second bottom and in need of a win to push us up the table.
