Tyler Buchan3 Jun 2013 - 09:40

An action packed weekend included two hat-tricks & victories for 2nd-4th XI and both U-13s and U-15s.

The weekend got under way on Friday night as Aberdeenshire Ladies took to Mannofield for their second "Come & Try" day of the season. Over 20 girls have attended across the two sessions and signs are promising for more events like this in the future, thoughts echoed by Fiona Urquhart

"Another @AberdeenshireCC Ladies session tonight, some great, naturally gifted lassies turned out! Start of something exciting at Shire!"

The 1st XI were at home yet again on Saturday with Arbroath the visitors. This early season top of the table clash put both sides 100% record's on the line and it was Arbroath who ran out victors by 27 runs on D/L. Having posted 253-8 the Dons were left to rue a slopping bowling and fielding effort that conceded almost 50 runs to the visitors by way of extras and misfields. Daya Singh was the highlight of the bowling effort, sealing his first career hat-trick in the final over of the innings. Peter West managed to capture the maginificent effort here.

The 2nd XI made the reverse journey to Arbroath and despite a few problems en route to the ground they managed to post 198-9 with Mark Assiter top scoring with 41. In reply, Fraser "Xavi" Proud led the way for the Dons taking 5 for 26 to skittle Arbroath for 127 and help extend the 2s unbeaten run to 3 games.

The 3rd XI are also enjoying a dominant start to the campaign and continued their fine form away to Methlick on Saturday. Ashish Mayekar led the way with 82 and Neil Rana provided some late fireworks with 60 to help post 267-4. Methlick struggled to 140 all out as Neil Rana and Steve Shorten both picked up a brace of wickets. Captain's match report is available here.

The 4th team rounded off Saturday's fine performances with a resounding victory in Grade 3 as their promotion charge picks up some steam. Batting first they made 227-9 as Dave Grayson took out the long handle and bludgeoned his way to 88 ably supported by Fiona Urquhart who scored 63. In reply, 2nd Ellon couldn't cope with the spin of 14 year old Charit Koppolu who returned career best figures of 6-39 including a hat-trick. Captain's match report is available here.

On Sunday the U-13 side defeated DHSFPs U-13s by 10 runs, while the U-15s secured a 6 wicket victory in the final over against DHSFPs U-15s

Some fantastic team and individual performances to continue the club's fine start to the 2013 season. Another busy weekend follows next week with double header games for both 2nd and 3rd XIs so a big test of our credentials for the season.
