Aberdeenshire celebrated our 165th anniversary with a dinner in the Bradman suite on Friday 11th November bringing together former and current players, social members, friends and supporters of Aberdeenshire in an evening of reflection and entertainment.
With the Bradman beautifully decked out in Aberdeenshire colours by Chris and her team of staff and volunteers, a range of the clubs’ memorabilia was on display, compare for the evening membership secretary Ian Stephen who got things underway with a quick round of Heads and Tails.
Howard Smith presented a review of David Hays cricket career, long service and commitment to Aberdeenshire as both a player and president, David was presented with a crystal decanter in recognition of his service.
The evenings musical entertainment was provided by Gemma and Leona who provided a range of music from Nessum Dorma to Abba that had the audience singing along, waving their napkins and dancing in the aisles.
Following an excellent dinner, Colin Smith gave some reflections on the club ranging from the founding of the club through players playing in a white Elvis suit to deciding which team through the decades was the best, giving the audience great delight in the ranking criteria he used.
Guest speaker for the evening was Gordon Hollins, Gordon played for Aberdeenshire in the 80s before moving into cricket management with Durham, the ECB and is currently CEO of Somerset County Cricket club, he provided some highlights of his time at Aberdeenshire and the ECB and a wonderful insight into the direction cricket is heading and the challenges cricket clubs will face going forward.
The evening was a great success and a chance to meet up with friends, supporters and former players of Aberdeenshire to discuss the history of the club.
