Megan to Lead Northern Lights

Aberdeenshire Cricket Club are pleased to announce Megan McColl as captain of the Northern Lights in their inaugural season in the Cricket Scotland Womens Premier League.

Megan started playing cricket around the age of eight at Arbroath United cricket club playing kwick cricket, she later moved to Australia for a couple years and began playing hardball at a girls club at the age of 12.

On returning to Scotland she continued hardball cricket at Arbroath United cricket club, at the age of 14 Megan was selected as part of the U17 Scotland squad making her debut at 15. Towards the end of her time with the U17’s she joined the Scotland woman’s squad training and playing with the Scotland A team before gaining her first cap for Scotland in 2019 against Germany at the European World Cup qualifiers.

Megan a regular member of the Scotland Wildcats team participated in the 2021 European World Cup qualifiers where she become the first Scottish player to take five wickets in an international match. The Wildcats recently returned from Malaysia where they participated in the Commonwealth Games qualifiers unfortunately Megan picked up an injury in a warm up game and although unable to play, she gained a lot of useful experience before the 2022 global World Cup qualifiers where the Wildcats hope to qualify for their first every World Cup.

Alongside representing Scotland Megan continues to play men’s cricket for Arbroath United cricket club and is looking forward to captain the Northern Lights - the first every woman’s premier league team from the north this season.

Megan will lead a team that has three fellow Wildcats Ailsa Lister, Becky Glenn and Abbie Hogg, players from clubs in the North region, Aberdeen University and Aberdeenshire Women and Girls, everyone at Aberdeenshire wish Megan and the rest of the team all the best for the coming season.
