President's Weekly Cricket Report - Week 11

Kenny Reid20 Jul 2024 - 05:56

A brief report of week 11 of the season from the President, Stuart Grant

3rd XI
Well done our victorious thirds!

In a weekend of but a couple of fixtures, they managed a victory, based largely on the individual performances of our young players. A little over a year ago, our bold youngsters were bravely competing more in hope than expectation of finding the winning habit; they’re managing that now!

On Saturday, they bowled out Dunecht for the lowly total of 46 runs. Marcus Vila, Aarush Sharma, Aayush Sinha and Isira Bandara formed the effective bowling attack. Their efforts were complemented by a run out by another rising star, Arnav Saraswat.

A solid second wicket partnership by Marcus and Arnav was enough to see the side through to victory.

On Saturday, they travel to the scenic Burnett Park in Banchory to face a home side sitting just above us in the table.

1st XI
Travelling with a depleted line-up, our first eleven experienced a rare defeat in the national T20 knock-out competition on Sunday at Forthill. Facing Premier League side Falkland, the lads bowled and fielded well enough as the Fifers built a total of 145. Sadly, our batsmen were blown away by the pace of overseas player, Ethan Frosler and we failed to challenge their total.

This week our firsts are back at Mannofield in a local derby against the enigmatic Gordonians. Though their league record has been disappointing to date this term, the Countesswells side have players capable of posing a threat to our ambitions. We will be strengthened by the return of James Robb from holiday.

Every game at this stage is very important and the lads will be determined to win this one!

2nd XI
Our second team is one of five sides currently in close contention at the top of Grade1. On Saturday, they meet champions and fellow challengers, Gordonians at Countesswells. Rahul’s team have been in fine form in recent weeks and have batted very successfully in that run. They travel the short distance in confidence. Good luck, lads!

Juniors
Our junior section awaits a date for the quarter-finals of the Scottish u14s competition. This will be an away tie at Arbroath and this match affords this squad the chance to advance to the National Finals Day, following in the paths of our u13 and u15 squads.

Heady days for our youngsters!
