Victory over Stenhousemuir at The Tryst secures top spot in Group E of Scottish Cup for the Dons.

Aberdeenshire were asked to bat first on a solid wicket with plenty of grass covering and made perfect use of it by putting on 102 for the first wicket. Chris Venske (51) and Calum Howard (43 - pictured) combined well to bring up the hundred in only 21 overs as they punished any loose balls and rotated the strike nicely. Both batsmen were wrapped on the knuckles a few times on a pitch which had a few demons in it, but the games biggest partnership set up the Shire innings nicely.

45 from Harsha Cooray and 26* from Kenny Reid helped boost the middle overs of the Dons innings and helped the Dons close on 227-7.

In reply Aberdeenshire struck early when Tyler Buchan had opener Halcrow trapped in front with the score on 7. Daya Singh enjoyed the sunny conditions and seemed to find an extra yard or two against his home town clubmate Tim Doonan, Singh earning bragging rights by clean bowling Doonan for 6. Singh struck again the very next ball, trapping Stenny Pro Jappie infront to leave the hosts on 18-3.

Another wicket apiece for Buchan and Singh left Stenny's innings in tatters at 21-5 and when Adrian Neill induced an edge from Arafat Stenny were staring down the barrel at 31-6.

Home Captain Owens joined MacDonald at the crease and the pair added 49 bowler the left arm spin of Howard lured Owens down the track only to find Neill at long off.

Harsha Cooray joined in the wicket taking fun by collecting two quick wickets with Daya Singh returning in search of a five for, only to run out of victims as Stenny were bowled out for 91.

The victory ensures Group E victory as the Dons hold an unassailable lead of 4 points over Uddingston who they meet next week in the final game of the group section.

The Dons are likely to face an away trip to Grange in the next round who lead Group G, however a heavy defeat on the last day to Renfrew may result in the Dons making the trip to Glasgow rather than Edinburgh on the 21st of July.
