Shire kick off the season with a dominant performance over Falkland, winning by 142 runs.

Captain Tyler Buchan lost the toss as expected and the Dons were asked to bat on a green tinged pitch at Scroggie.

Falklands decision to bowl was justified after removing Howard (7) lbw and the leagues 2014 top run scorer Venske (21) with the score on 43.

This brought full time foam roller specialist Hayes Van Der Berg to the crease alongside Pro Harsha Cooray. The pair beginning to build a nice partnership before Cooray (13) was adjudged lbw to overseas player Strachan.

VDB and Tomlinson then set about increasing the rate, rotating the strike regularly and VDB raising his bat for his least memorable half century ever finally falling lbw for a well made 59.

Tomlinson unleashed some uncharacteristic slog sweeps in his breezy 20 before being bowled by a good delivery by Buitendag leaving the score on a balanced 136-5.

This brought wicketkeeper Reid and power hitter Martin to the crease, who, after a slight mix up which saw Reid run out for 9, decided to move the score towards a very defendable total in dramatic fashion.

The right hander, who walked to the crease in the 43rd over with the score at 163 unfurled a selection of well timed strokes in his unbeaten 81 off 41, moved past his first CSL fifty with his 167th reverse sweep, eventually finding the fence no less than 14 times including two remarkable sixes in the final over.

In partnership with ex NBA star Adrian Neill they added 91 in the last 7 overs, boosting Shire to 254 for 8 off their allocation.

In the Falkland reply, Buchan and Neill began with the ball and reduced the home side to 28 for 4 with some exceptional bowling at the top order, sending back current Scotland player Sharif (1) and overseas Buitendag (0) on their way along with the aggressive Henderson and 'keeper Ferguson.

The bowlers were then rotated through Van Der Berg, Halcrow and Venske all bowling tidy spells, but it was all rounder Cooray who's off spin had Matt Surry in a bit of trouble, running past a straight one and being bowled for 28.

With the scoreboard ticking slowly over, Shire turned the screw on the Falkland middle order and reaped the rewards of building pressure as Venske had Ditchman (1) caught well at point by Martin leaving the score on 95 for 6.

Buchan then brought back Neill for a second spell which proved to be the undoing of the rest of the home sides batting, Cooray picking up number 11 Hamilton with a well disguised quicker ball and the BFG picking up 3 wickets taking him to a career best in any format of 6 - 26.

Falkland ending the innings on 112 all out after 36.5 overs. Aberdeenshire entertain Forfarshire in their first home league game of the season on Saturday.
